Mariguana's video: Liberal Hacker Mariguana

@Liberal Hacker Mariguana
Some memories fade in the span of time. Then, they're memories that define an individual. I remember my first year in high school in the hallway, in between recess and my next class. A classmate approached me with an album, in his hand and mentioned that he didn't like it because, the last album before was much better. Eric was his name. "I'll sell it to you" Eric said I asked "How much" $3.00 was his price. I agreed on the price, gave him my lunch money and went about the moments of the day. The school day ended, arrived to my home and went straight to my bedroom. Grabbed the record out of the sleeve, placed the needle on the record. The intro of the music was a Obenheim synth bass line along with a combination of Obenheim synth voice choir with a flavor of synth strings. The drums were hooky, the bass guitar line was tight and the guitar playing was soulful. Here are some of the lyrics ----------------------------------------- Growing up, it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided The future pre-decided Detached and subdivided In the mass-production zone Nowhere is the dreamer Or the misfit so alone Some will sell their dreams for small desires Or lose the race to rats Get caught in ticking traps And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight Somewhere out of a memory Of lighted streets on quiet nights ---------------------------------------- My isolation subsided Love and warmth ruled the day This song is about how narrow-minded and judgmental people can get, when they are confined to certain groups. Also, if you don't meet a certain standard, your basically shunned. I immediately connected to this song, in that moment, it directly expressed what I was going through and others during adolescence. It gave many of us, warning signs later in life, to not fall under the trappings of cliques and the conformity of the suburbs. The song is called "Subdivisions" The album is "Signals" The group is Rush Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson Lyrics by Neil Peart The announcement on the passing of Neil Peart on Jan 10th 2020 took me back to that moment, when I first became a Rush fan and how Neil's lyrics instilled in me a sensibility to live life with exploration, to always look forward, not back. This audio mix is from a rare interview of Neil with Jim Ladd from February 3rd 2015 near the eve of Rush's 40th Anniversary tour. Subdivisions marked a turning point in Neil's life when he wrote it "I didn't believe yet, I could put something real into a song," he told Rolling Stone. "'Subdivisions' happened to be an anthem for a lot of people who grew up under those circumstances, and from then on, I realized what I most wanted to put in a song was human experience" Thank you Neil, for showing me that it's better to live a life, not as a "way of life" but it's better to live life as an "experience" Cheers Bartholomew
