Marijke Violin's video: Violinist plays Can You Feel The Love Tonight in a pub

@Violinist plays "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" in a pub
Last Friday we performed a few songs with the band during a gig night in a pub. The theme of the evening was "love songs" because of Valentine's Day. In this video I'm performing Can You Feel The Love Tonight, together with Hendrik, a tough fisherman who appeared to have a "voice like a dam", as we say so in The Netherlands. :-P I hope we can perform somewhere again soon! ^_^ Our band is called "The Islanders" because the town of Urk used to be an island many years ago. But any place outside the town is still referred to as "at the shore" by the locals. -Marijke ------------------------------------------ S O C I A L • Instagram: @marijke.violin • E-mail: marijke.plays@gmail.com • Website with sheet music: http://www.marijke-plays.com G E A R • Acoustic violin // Roderich Paesold, 2017 • Electric violin // Yamaha SV-200 (brown) • Bow // carbon fiber bow "Presto" (from Zlata from Violin Lounge) • Chin rest // Wittner & Guarneri style • Shoulder rest // Wolf - Forte Secondo __________________________ A little background story: The town Urk, where I come from, is a bit of a peculiar place where everyone still speaks in dialect. Growing up there, I remember mostly that people were intolerant to anything and anyone that was different from the rest. I didn't feel very comfortable or at home there, because of not being that typical town girl. It's only later on in life that you realize that this vibe mostly came from ignorant teenagers. Now I see my hometown as a warmhearted place where everyone knows eachother and people help eachother out. I don't live here anymore though, we moved to a town that's 20 minute drive away. But I still work here and I like the people's down-to-earth attitude and humor. About 10 years ago, I went out to the pubs in the town centre with some friends, so see if I'd like it. To be short: I didn't. I've never been an outgoing person and felt so much out of place there. So I thought I'd never get in there again. But little did I know back then that I'd be standing in that same pub 10 years later, playing violin with a band! (I can say for sure my 20 year old self wouldn't have dared to dream this!) I was curious what people would think of our band, or think of me, but they all seemed to like it. And in between our performances, when we had over an hour with nothing to do, I asked two band members if they wanted to go and eat a snack at the cafeteria at the other side of the street, to escape the crowd. I remember I did the same thing 10 years ago, and it was one of the highlights of the evening, to just sit down and eat and have a nice conversation with friends in a more quiet place. So it was fun to do that again. Until one of us got a phone call: "Where are you guys?! We're up next!" After which we ran back to the pub, with greasy fingers and still feeling the fries in our throat. But we had so much fun!
