Referencing an archive photograph of the Comox Wharf circa 1917, we breathe life into a scene by recreating the photograph as a 3D set complete with actors, birds, blowing flags, and smoke from the steamship. Leveraging a technique called camera mapping relatively low detail geometry is constructed as a canvas for the original image to be projected across. This process injects depth and with a little additional clean up allows for minor 3D camera moves to be applied. The project was built for an installation in the local Comox Archives and Museum which gave the students an excellent real world production experience as well as an opportunity to contribute back to the community.
