Here is how to identify AirBnB scams and how to avoid them… AirBnB does have scam artists, hiding in the shadows. Here’s the story: My friend and I were looking for a place to stay in California through an apartment website when we came across an unusually good listing. He responded saying he uses AirBnb for renting. I had never used AirBnB before so I didn’t know you could use them for renting long term… but I looked into it and apparently you can. So I thought it was legit. I clicked the links and they took me to a professional page where I could view more details and pictures. Even when I clicked on the support page, it sent me over to the ACTUAL AirBnB website. I was just about to make a payment to secure the place when… I suddenly realized what I was about to do.. I called customer support for AirBnB and told them about what I was trying to do… They informed me that It was indeed a fraudulent posting. Not done through AirBnB, but through Apartments.com.
