Toiano is a small abandoned rural village near Palaia, in the Pisa region. You can still feel the small community life, and perhaps sense the villagers going to work in the nearby fields, feed the kettle, pick grapes, press olive oil, or strolling to mass. Before reaching the town, along the deserted road you may see the sad marble memorial, reminding us of young Elvira, a beautiful girl killed on the holiday of Corpus Domini in June 1947, while going to the fountain. She was 22. Although her boyfriend was suspected for long time, the real killer still remains a mystery.
