Martin Del Vecchio's video: North Atlantic Right Whale -- Long Beach -- Gloucester MA

@North Atlantic Right Whale -- Long Beach -- Gloucester, MA
A group of five north Atlantic right whales spent the morning feeding just off Long Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts. And I mean *just* off Long Beach. Here are some photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/martindelvecchio/sets/72157693307373012/with/40991082015/ This one spent his time about 15 feet from the rocks, traveling back and forth, feeding on the copepods that have bloomed in our waters. These are the rarest whales on the planet, with only about 400 remaining. It has been a tough year for them, with no confirmed live births and more than a dozen deaths due to boat strikes and entanglements. You might recall my drone video from the last time one of these whales visited my neighborhood (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJVnGpiwigY). I did not fly my drone this time, as shortly after I posted that video, I got a call from a gentleman in the Criminal Investigations Division of NOAA. It turns out that the laws that force boats to operate at least 1,500 feet of these whales also apply to drones. I didn't get fined, but I was politely asked not to fly around whales again. So this time, I just dragged my big lens out onto the rocks.
