MatrixWriter's video: How To Setup Team BlackSheep TBS CROSSFIRE on Vortex 250 Pro 285

@How To Setup Team BlackSheep (TBS) CROSSFIRE on Vortex 250 Pro / 285
In this video, I am going to show you how to bind and completely setup your ImmersionRC Vortex 250 Pro (should work with the Vortex 285) quadcopter with the Team BlackSheep (TBS) CROSSFIRE long range (UHF) system and micro receiver. This uses the S.BUS and CRSF protocols. This is the first part of the video series on long range FPV and UHF. I am using the FrSky Taranis X9D Plus on firmware v2.1.6. Crossfire also works on the RadioLink AT9, but I recommend using the Taranis for this setup. Your TBS CROSSFIRE needs to be on firmware v1.06 or later in order to use it with the micro receiver. Final installation photos: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bwdh8mcr00lEbmFvMG42MUljenM Tips: 1) For light weight and clean setup, I recommend using the TBS CROSSFIRE micro receiver (Rx) over the full sized one. You can easily fit the receiver inside the quadcopter. This video tutorial covers setup of the micro RX. 2) Use dynamic power settings for transmission power! The crossfire system will adjust the output power automatically based off of RSSI. Too high of RF power levels can and will burn out the receiver system if the transmitter is too close in proximity. This is mentioned in the manual. 3) When mounting the micro RX antenna, the micro dipole, it needs to be in the vertical direction or V shape. One of my videos has it horizontal, which is NOT correct as it will cause issues with polarization. Fixing the antenna installation in this video...The Crossfire micro receiver antenna which is dangling from the back tail plate piece, simply use 2 cable ties to mount it into a V shape at the point where the dipole antenna starts at. 4) I recommend the getting the tuned antenna for the crossfire transmitter as it helps increases control and range over the stock T-antenna. UPDATE, AUGUST 2016 - the stock T-antenna is recommend as the tuned antenna is meant for the diversity receiver with tuned antennas. 5) ALWAYS make sure to have the antenna mounted on the crossfire Tx before powering it up as without an antenna, you can burn up the transmitter module. 6) I recommend getting spare micro Rx antennas as they can easily break and become damaged (esp. the micro dipole portion). A field repair and change takes about 5 min to complete. UPDATE, MAY - TBS now includes a spare antenna and shrink wrap for antenna replacement. Video next in the series is modifying the Vortex to use different ImmersionRC FPV transmitter frequency (modules): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgABVW61I8 Any questions or comments, please post them below.
