MeetTheSupremes's video: The Supremes: Live on The Tonight Show 1967 - The Happening

@The Supremes: Live on The Tonight Show (1967) - "The Happening"
The Supremes perform their 10th hit "The Happening" live on May 22nd 1967 on The Tonight Show. This would be the last TV appearance to feature the original lineup of the group as only weeks later founder of the group Florence Ballard would be fired. This performance features the original (and most popular) lineup of The Supremes: From left to right: - Florence Ballard - Mary Wilson - Diana Ross "The Happening" served as the theme song for the Columbia film of the same name. While the film flopped the single recorded by the famous female Motown trio who had already had 9 hits prior to The Happening managed to top the charts again reaching on the pop chart and on the R&B. "The Happening" was written by HDH (Holland-Dozier-Holland) who had written all The Supremes' prior hits and all their 's up to 1967 (when they departed Motown). This was the last single written by HDH and the last single released as "The Supremes" as between the released of "The Happening" and the group's next single "Reflections", founding member and soprano of the group Florence Ballard would be fired and replaced by Patti Labelle & The Bluebelles member Cindy Birdsong and the group's name would be changed to "Diana Ross & The Supremes". After the name and member change the group never managed to repeat or match the sucess they had racking up only 2 's as Diana Ross & The Supremes. Writer(s): Holland-Dozier-Holland and Frank DeVol Producer(s): Brian Holland & Lamont Dozier (of Holland-Dozier-Holland) ENJOY!
