Addison and Cassidy Hempel, 14, gained their angel wings on July 4, 2019 within minutes of each other after catching the flu. The twins were diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C when they were 3. The rare and fatal genetic disease is often referred to as childhood Alzheimer's disease. Most children with the disease don't live past their teens. Addi and Cassi were born in 2004 and for the first few years hit milestones just like other children. After two infections and doctors noting the girls had enlarged livers and spleens, they were diagnosed with the fatal and rare genetic disease in 2007. It affects about 500 people worldwide.
