Mercian1969's video: Coventry City v Wolves 11th January 1975

@Coventry City v Wolves, 11th January 1975
Brief goal footage of the First Division match between Coventry City and Wolves at Highfield Road, 11th January 1975. Although Wolves had generally been in good form from November through to Boxing Day, Bill McGarry's team had been beaten in their previous two matches prior to their match at Coventry; a loss at bottom of the league Luton Town was followed by defeat at Molineux by Ipswich Town in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Wolves were undergoing a gradual transition during the 1974-75 season. With Derek Dougan relegated to just a handful of appearances in the final season of his distinguished Wolves career, McGarry sought his replacement to partner John Richards. Either Alan Sunderland, Steve Daley, Peter Withe or Steve Kindon were selected instead of 'The Doog.' Sunderland was the player initially chosen by McGarry for the number 10 shirt but after a lengthy scoreless run, his season ended with a broken leg sustained in training. Kindon eventually prevailed and he finished the season with a creditable 10 goals in 29 league appearances, including the only Wolves goal at Highfield Road. Another magnificent servant of the club, Dave Wagstaffe, was injured at the beginning of the season - a continuation of an injury that had occurred prior to the League Cup final the previous season. The unenviable task of replacing 'Waggy' as left-winger went to John Farley but, at other times, Steve Kindon, Alan Sunderland or Steve Daley were chosen for the position. Wagstaffe was included in McGarry's team for the match against Coventry, one of only 13 appearances for the season. It was perhaps McGarry's experimentation in those positions (some of it enforced through injuries) that resulted in a relatively underwhelming season for Wolves - a final league position of 12th and disappointing exits at the opening stages of the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. Included in Gordon Milne's Coventry team against Wolves was Willie Carr. The talented midfielder joined Wolves just two months later and scored on his debut in a 7-1 defeat of Chelsea on 15th March 1975, the first of 289 league and cup appearances in a subsequently fine career at Molineux.
