However, since I can't know yet for which of the participating countries I'm going to cover the current entry rather than a former one, I'm staying on the safe side by continuing with another country that sadly didn't return to the contest for the upcoming season. 2006 was the year that made me watch the contest consistently, after having watched it casually for the first time in 2002 and 2003. It was also the year that gave Bosnia & Herzegovina their best placing to date, coming in 3rd. And "Lejla" was the first song composed by Željko Joksimović that I ever got to hear! I must admit, back then, as a kid, I didn't get the appeal of this song. But Serbia's entry "Oro" in 2008 won me over for the Balkan ballads, and ever since, this has been one of the main genres I'm always looking forward to every year the contest comes around. So let's hope for another great selection of Balkan ballads in 2020 - and even though we already know Bosnia & Herzegovina won't be contributing one, we still have this old classic to enjoy in the meantime! Also, my Greek bouzouki is now having its one-year anniversary, after I got it for Christmas last year. Thus, a great time to bring it back for this song!
