The lives of Tuvia Bielski and his three younger brothers are changed forever when the Nazis cleanse their Polish village of Jews, slaughtering their parents. Vowing revenge, the Jewish brothers flee to a nearby forest where they set up a camp of partisans whose one aim is to harass the German troops and the local collaborator police force. Local Jews begin fleeing to the forest and Tuvia takes them in, forming a small hidden community in the woods. After a falling out with his brother Zus, Tuvia must head the group by himself. The sheltering woods become increasingly dangerous, and Tuvia must lead the company to safety through German troops.
