This is the first of a series of practical keyboard tutorials for those interested in a career as a gigging/studio musician. In the series on reading chord charts, we'll talk about playing in a number of fun and popular styles, the differences between them, and what's appropriate to play in various situations that might come up. In this first video, I talk about my thoughts on this importance of voice leading, even in the most basic chord progressions. We also go over a few different rhythmic figures to play over a basic 4/4 groove, and talk a little about the role of the keyboard in a band, and staying out of the way of the vocals.
