venezuelans recognize signs of a communist takeover better than almost anyone. “there’s no limits to what’s next – it’s an attempt to change the national identity”. venezuelan activist issues warning on current leftist revolution in america...over 100 statues have been destroyed, taken down or vandalized in america in the last three weeks. the statues included catholic saints, confederate generals, christopher columbus and the founding fathers. young venezuelan activist elizabeth rogliani otaola fled the marxist chavez-maduro regime from venezuela with her family. the young activist warned americans about dangerous days ahead if americans do not rise up and confront the mob. elizabeth rogliani otaola: i had friends who told me it’s just the confederate statues. and I said ‘no’ it’s not going to be just the confederate statues just wait and see. this is a slippery slope. the next thing is going to be all the symbols of the united states, the founding fathers are going to be attacked, religious symbols are going to be attacked. and, the next, probably museums. anything can be attacked if you just let it happen. if you just let the first ones come down, nothing, there’s no limits to whats next… it’s a cultural revolution. it’s an attempt to change the national identity. they’re trying to change the system. elizabeth rogliani, a venezuelan activist living in the u.s.., told followers on tik tok why she is concerned to see statues being torn down and roads being renamed in america. why do I even worry about some silly little statues coming down or some silly little street names changing? why do I care? it is because the last time I didn't care about this, i was a teenager. i have already lived through this thing when I was living in venezuela. statues came down -- chavez didn't want that history displayed. and then he changed the street names. then came the [school curricula]. then some movies couldn't be shown, then certain tv channels, and so on and so forth. you guys think this can't happen to you, i've heard it so many times. but always be on guard. never believe something can't happen to you. you've got to defend your country and your society or it will be destroyed. we didn't believe it could happen to us. most venezuelans "cubans warned us" and we were like, "this is venezuela, we know about freedom. that's not going to happen here." yet it happened. and there are literally a lot of people wanting to destroy the u.s. she points to several steps venezuela went through on its way from being one of the most prosperous countries in the americas to a socialist police state and economic disaster: statues came down because socialist dictator hugo chavez wanted the history erased. he changed street names for the same reason. he changed the educational curriculum to erase history and substitute his version. movies were banned, presumably for the same reason. cuban exiles tried to warn venezuelans that they were seeing similar patterns and events they had suffered, but venezuelans brushed them off saying they knew what freedom is and they would never surrender it.
