Mick McCleery's video: ONE BY ONE 1982 31st Anniversary Upload

@'ONE BY ONE' (1982) 31st Anniversary Upload!
THE STORY: I am uploading this on the 31st anniversary of it being shot (March 15th 1982). It's easy to say 'time flies'. But let's face it. It does. And this sure does take me back. The first time I can remember wanting to be a film maker is when I was nine, and I wrote my first script, 'The Birth of the Haddon Heights Hoodlums' (I actually dictated it to my older sister Colleen, who entertained me by typing it up -- thanks Col!). After the script was finished, I tried to shoot it on my family's old home movie camera. But, it turned out it was broken. So I started bugging my parents for a new one. As with many kids, I probably went off for a bit and they probably thought I had forgotten ("Thank God!"). But I always came back to it, and by the time I was 12 I guess they figured I had been on it enough that it might be a good way for me to show off my creativity. My dad took me out and bought me that Keystone camera (I seem to remember it was $99 - In 1982 money... which is (looking it up right now) about $234 today (2013 money). Thanks Pop! Anyway, I had the basic notion of a plot. This was based on the story 'The Most Dangerous Game', about a hunter that likes to hunt the ultimate prey... Man! I play the hunter, John Innocenzo plays the prey, and Brett Heniss and Dave Farinelli play my henchmen. In it we use sticks for guns. And they shoot lasers! (really just needle scratches on the film) TECHNICAL STUFF: This was shot on, the aforementioned, brand new Keystone Super-8 movie camera (exactly like the one in the picture). No sound. Eighteen film frames per second. On one 50 foot reel of film. I took it to Leopald's Pharmacy on Station Avenue in Haddon Heights to be developed and by the end of the week it was back and ready to be watched. From there I did some basic edits, by cutting and pasting the film (with a razor cutting block and some splicing tape). The soundtrack is as it always was, a popular song from 1982 (and still popular today), 'Under Pressure'. When 'screening' this film back then I used to start the film and push play on my tape deck to give the audience that full experience. NEW TWISTS: No new twists at all (except for my brief intro). I do have plans to someday do a 'cleaned up' version. Maybe for the 32nd anniversary (or 50th!) REFLECTION: Sure does take me back. One of the guys from this movie is no longer with us. So a quiet salute to Dave Farinelli. While I had wanted to make movies from when I was in 3rd grade, it wasn't until I met someone who was actually doing it (Dave) that I realized it was possible. I certainly owe him for that. Thank you Dave. m mccleery
