Mick McCleery's video: Cool Feet 2016 - a 48 hour film project Philadelphia PA

@Cool Feet (2016) - a 48 hour film project (Philadelphia, PA)
Required Elements (Philadelphia 48-hour Film Project - 2016) Genre: Buddy Film Character: Jon ‘Jellybean’ Champlain - Dog Walker Prop: Ice Line of Dialogue: "Tell her what you told me.” THE PLOT: It’s Jon Champlain’s wedding day. He’s in love but he’s not sure if he can get himself to the church on time. He may not have ‘cold feet’ but they are feeling a bit chilly. THE STORY (behind the movie): This one was an interesting one. It was our second of 2016 (we had completed the Baltimore 48-hour Fest 5 weekends earlier ( ) and we were quite game to get our creative juices going again. Only one issue - it's the same weekend as Mike and his wife Courtney’s Wedding Party (they had gotten married earlier in the Summer in Italy but this was to be the big celebration stateside). Still, Mike was game, but with limited availability and we would all have to take a major break Saturday to attend the party - so it would be more like a 38-hour film project. TECHNICAL STUFF: As we knew we would have limited time to edit this I added a challenge in… Could we shoot our phone conversations ‘live’ with us each on our iPhones and with multiple cameras running so that we could then edit them together as split screens but keep all the dialogue timing in sync and correct? Easier said than done! Ultimately, we did achieve the effect. But it came with quite a sacrifice - It’s quite tough using dash cams continuously in cars without the ability to cut out ‘bad footage’. There is just so much light pollution with sun glare and the like it was hard to come up with footage that stayed ‘good looking’ for any length of time. We also got locked into different takes where it might have been a great Gary take but a lesser one of mine or vice versa… But we made it all work in the end - ish. REFLECTION: I’ll start with the title. ‘Cool Feet’ it’s our play on ‘Cold Feet’ but when one reads it they probably tend to think more - ‘those are cool looking feet!’ Not sure how bad that is - but in hindsight not so sure how well it works. It was, however, cool to celebrate and incorporate Mike’s wedding into one of these movies, and a big shout out to his wife Cortney for playing along - and being in the flick! THINGS TO FIX: There’s quite a bit here. The big one is this - because of the way we set this ‘challenge up we had to record using ‘double system sound’ - we were using dash cams in each car (and an OSMO for Mike's dog walking scene) to record the video but separate cameras (with xlr inputs) to record all the audio. The dash cam stuff wasn’t time stamped correctly so finding and marrying the correct audio files to the correct video files was a time-consuming challenge (and believe me we did a lot of takes of our phone conversations). I thought weeks later that with some time (not under the pressure of a deadline) I could marry all of their audio & video together and then re-edit the split screen scenes with the best takes and make up any timing slips between the various takes by using speed effects in between a given actors dialogue bits. Make sense? Sure It does! m mccleery (2/16/23)
