@Columbine Breaking News Footage: The first hours, days, and week of April 20, 1999
This is a personally edited compilation of the earliest and most complete Columbine news footage that I've been able to find. I've removed commercials and most segments about the contemporaneous Kosovo crisis and attempted to merge my various clips into the most chronological and comprehensive timeline that I could. The footage begins within just an hour or so of the shooting, which is about as early as one is likely to find (the Columbine massacre took a mere sixteen minutes from beginning to end so any significant footage taken during the actual event itself is all but nonexistent). The video then dedicates several hours to the shock and confusion of the first day, continues with several more hours into the first night and second day when the facts start to become more clear, and then wraps up with more hours of public reaction and discussion from everyone ranging from students to news outlets to police to local talk shows. While I did what I could to include the full course of events in a chronological fashion, much of the best and most important (ie, the earliest) footage comes from two different sources, recorded at roughly the same time, both flipping back and forth between different news stations. As a result there's inevitable overlap, which I understand can be annoying, but I included it all because I think that it's helpful and important to get different clips, different conversation, different perspectives. Things begin to streamline as the video goes along, and the final segment is used with kind permission from another uploader who allowed me to use his late-week footage in my compilation. The totality of my video was originally nearly 14 hours long but I discovered that Youtube sets the limit at 12, the good thing is that pretty much all that had to be cut was footage of the Columbine memorial service that took place on April 25, and which can be seen in its entirety elsewhere. As such, I feel pretty confident in saying that this is the earliest, longest, and most complete single video that you're likely to find regarding the Columbine incident. I scour the internet - deeply and at length - every few months to see if any new, decent footage can be found. I've gone to other video hosting sites and even spent hours digging through (and in some cases making requests of) official news organization archives to get more. I have several hours of raw helicopter footage taken that day, but that's about all that's left (and is also already available online). Everything else essentially consists of quick blurbs, two to ten minute snippets of Columbine news that hold no real value due to their brevity and lack of chronological context. I present this video as someone who has always been interested in the details of this case, and hope that by putting together this very lengthy compilation it will serve to educate, inform, and help to archive a very important event in American history. I have not manipulated the footage to mislead or sensationalize the content in any way. As a final note, I'm not a fan of censorship but given the nature of this topic I also will not tolerate deliberately provocative comments. This is not a place to praise what happened or glorify the shooters. You're all welcome to your opinions, and if they can be expressed here in a mature and respectful way they'll be left alone. Any attempts to antagonize, gaslight, or otherwise troll will be removed. I posted this video for education and discussion, not mockery or fighting.
