Should you not unearth your vulnerabilities And break down your walls To allow in a risk that is worth it It is hard to love After losing it so much In our youth we trip and stumble Over emotions and expectations Hardly able to grasp a love That is worth holding on to So we learn through experience To hold ourselves accountable For the hands in which we place our hearts And the hurt that they may cause We learn through hurt To guard ourselves from the world from these careless hands That bring calluses to ours Through it all, I’ve learned my lesson enough to know, These hands are still worth holding So I clasp them in prayer That I might one day be ready For a love that will not be a risk But a decision made without doubt in my heart A love like the one I have found inside This love, could only have been sent by God A love that is unconditional It is a love that has saved my life A love that has come back for me When I could not recognize myself It is a love like that of a grandmother Or a great grandmother It is not romantic It is without end It is patient, understanding, and forgiving A love that has shown me confidence from within A gold I now see in myself That I can see I can see in everything else I see myself in every expression So when I go to pursue a love that is romantic These are the standards I hold it to A love that does not interrupt this love I have found in myself But one that encourages it One that does not seek to compare But to compliment A love that is pure, and trusting One that allows room for growth And is never in competition I cannot rush a love like this Because like the love I have only begun to find in myself These things take time
