Been gradually showing my daughter, Charlotte, chords on the for a little while now and she’s got C major down now without any intervening from me! I think the key to really learning any instrument is to initially do it at a pace where it doesn’t feel like work. Make the process informative, but more so, make it fun so that you’re not focusing so much on learning one thing, like in this case, showing how you can play “Frère Jacques (Are You Sleeping?)” just over that one chord. Some progress faster than others but it’s about moving at a pace that’s right for you. (It should also be noted that my wife hates John Mayer. I know - it hurts my feelings too. èrejacques
