And then the word “pet,” well, that’s a sweet word that brings such warm feelings to the soul, right? Aww. But if we add these two words together, then… this could spell some problems for some. It’s true to say that, this topic is a little controversial, and this is mostly due to differing public viewpoints about whether or not it should be allowed at all, and because people love to love animals, generally speaking, and so they will usually have an opinion on it, one way or the other. Welcome to Mind Read, everyone! We’re super excited that you could be with us today. Today’s countdown is on the topic of the 10 most unique exotic pets in the world. So, get ready and as comfortable as can be, as we share all the interesting information on these very interesting animals. And we’re going to get started right now! Number 10: At the tenth spot, we’re talking all about the animal known as the bobcat. Bobcats are sometimes called wildcats and are roughly twice as large as the average housecat. So they’re not huge. They definitely have legs, paws, and tufted-type ears which are similar to those of their larger relative known as the Canada lynx. In truth, most bobcats are brown or brownish-red in color, with a white-colored underbelly and a short, black-tipped tail. The bobcat is known by lots of other names, too. Some of these are: the wildcat, the bay lynx nd the lynx cat. Some people have called them “the spitfire of the animal kingdom” because they seem to be so fearless. Out of all the wild cats located in North America, the bobcat has the largest range, and is also the most abundant, overall. Although it most commonly preys on rabbits, birds, rodents, and small game, bobcats can kill prey much bigger than themselves. Number 9: At spot number 9, we’re bringing you the infamous tiger. The tiger is the biggest species of the cat family, in actual fact. Tigers can reach a length of up to 11 feet and can weigh up to a whopping 660 pounds. The subspecies of the tiger include the: Sumatran tiger, Siberian tiger, South China tiger, Malayan tiger, Bengal tiger, and the Indochinese tiger. It’s hard to believe that there’s so many subspecies. Other interesting facts about the tiger, is that it’s the largest extant cat species and it’s a member of the genus Panthera. It is most recognisable for its dark, vertical stripes on its well-known orange-brown fur with a lighter underside. It is known as an apex predator, mostly preying on deer and wild boar, or other undulates that meet its needs on a dietary level. Some typical behaviors for tigers in the wild are to rest throughout the day and be more active at nighttime. Grooming themselves is also an important part of their day, and this is because their coat allows them to have built-in camouflage in their natural habitats such as: rainforests, swamps, savannas, and grasslands. Number 8: At the eighth spot, we’re showing you the hugeness of the buffalo. Buffalo live mostly on the plains when they’re not being domesticated, an unusual and rare occurrence. And some in the wild are generally known to inhabit river valleys as well as forests. True buffalo only live within the locality of Asia and Africa. Plains Indians used every part of the buffalo to help them survive as a food source, and only killed what they needed to eat. Buffalo can be around 6 to 7 feet long, standing from 5 to 6 feet tall, and weigh up to 2000 pounds. Some African buffalo can reach up to 11 feet in length, and up to 5.6 feet in height, although this is a rarity. African buffalo have a very large head, broad shoulders and chest, and strong legs, too. They’re approximately 4 times stronger than an ox. African buffalos live in large herds that sometimes include around a thousand animals within their community. Some believe it to be cruel that these animals are kept as exotic pets, especially if their space disallows them from being in a herd, or from running free and roaming. These animals are definitely unique and mammoth in both size and weight. And they take up the eighth spot in our amazing countdown, today. Let’s get to the next spot right now! Number 7: At spot number 7, we’re definitely bringing you the peacock. Only the males are actually called “peacocks.” Here are some other cool facts: Fact 1: A family of peafowl is called a “bevy.” Fact 2: Peacocks are not born with their fancy tail feathers. Fact 3: Peacocks can fly, despite their massive feathers which would seem to impede them from doing so.
