When PureWow and Minwax® team up, upcycling inspiration is endless! Watch this tutorial and learn how with a few Minwax® products you can convert an old drawer into a beautiful blanket box in just four simple steps! To begin, prep the wood by removing the hardware and stripping off the old finish. Sand the surface smooth, going along the direction of the wood grain and wiping away any excess dust when you’re finished. When you’re ready to stain, stir Minwax® Gel Stain until creamy. Apply a liberal amount to the surface of the drawer with a clean cloth. Wait three minutes and remove excess with a clean cloth, following the grain of the wood. Let the stain dry for 8-10 hours. Once dry, it’s time to apply a polyurethane finish. Shake your Minwax® Wipe-On Poly and pour onto a soft, lint-free cloth. Rub onto surface and let dry for 2-3 hours. Lightly sand, then apply a second coat of Wipe-On Poly. If desired, a third coat can be applied. After final coat, let the drawer dry for 24 hours. Complete the new blanket box by lining the interior with your favorite paper design, adding unique hardware and hairpin legs - you now have the perfect storage space for any room!
