With inspiration from Minwax® and PureWow, it is easy to refinish your favorite piece of furniture. Watch this tutorial and learn how with a few Minwax® products you can make an old dresser look new again. Prep the dresser by first removing the drawers, knobs and screws. Sand the surface of the dresser with medium to fine grit sandpaper, making sure to go in the direction of the wood grain. Wipe away any dust or dirt when you’re finished. Next, it’s time get rid of that old finish, using Minwax® Antique Furniture Refinisher. Wearing heavy rubber gloves, dip some fine steel wool into the Antique Refinisher, squeezing out the excess and rub in small circles across the surface of the dresser. For the final pass, make sure you move in the direction of the wood grain. After the old finish has been removed and the surface is dry, you’re ready to add beautiful color and a long lasting protection with Minwax® PolyShades®. Start by stirring the PolyShades® completely. Then with a natural bristle brush, apply the PolyShades® to the dresser. Be sure to apply thin, even coats the entire length, keeping the brush at a 45 degree angle and maintaining a wet edge. Allow the PolyShades® to dry for at least six hours before lightly sanding with fine steel wool. Remove all dust, then apply a second thin coat of PolyShades® and let dry completely. Once dry, add the finishing touches to your dresser, like modern hardware and printed liner paper for the drawers.
