With a little imagination and some help from Minwax® wood finishing products, you can reinvent any flea market find into a fun weekend project! In this tutorial, learn how an old door and a few milk crates can become a charming entryway centerpiece. To start, strip each piece down to the bare wood, in preparation for the stain. Depending on how much paint is on each piece, you may need to use a paint stripper, otherwise a palm sander will do the trick. Once the wood is stripped and ready to stain, it's time to choose and of the 26 colors of Minwax® Wood Finish™. Stir the stain until it's completely mixed, then apply the stain onto the wood, making sure to brush in the direction of the wood grain. Allow the stain to sit and penetrate the wood for a few minutes before wiping off the excess with a towel. For a darker color, apply a second coat of finish after a few hours. Let each piece dry completely, then apply a few coats of Minwax® Fast-Drying Polyurethane. Let it dry for at least 24 hours before assembling the entryway. After each piece is thoroughly dried, you're ready to attach the milk crates to the door using wood screws. You can also add a simple shelf by going to your local lumberyard or hardware store and having a piece cut to size, staining it like the crates and door. Add a little character to your entry piece by attaching brackets and a few vintage hooks as well.
