Here are the tips I discus in this video for taming guinea pigs: 1) Upon first bringing your new pet home give it some time to adjust to it's new environment. At least a few days to a week is recommended to let the animal feel comfortable before beginning the taming process. 2) Start by spending time by the cage talking softly to your pet. 3) Once the guinea pig is calm with your presence (eating in front of you, walking around in the cage, not hiding) begin to offer it treats (small pieces of veggies etc.) by placing your hand in the cage. 4) After you pig is comfortable with hand feeding bring it out of the cage for 'laptime'. sit the pet on your lap and pet it gently in the direction of it's fur to have it become used to contact. 5) Never chase your pet are the cage with your hand trying to grab it. Move very slowly with your hands to approach the animal and carefully pick it up. You may also wish to use a flipped over house or cosy bed to pick up you pet. 6) When you become more comfortable with handling your pet you may wish to make a playpen or bring it out of the cage for 'floortime'. 7) Remember, Taming can take weeks or months. Never rush the process. You must be patient and calm. 8) Do not become discouraged! Guinea Pigs are timid prey animals so their instinct is to run and hide. The more time you spend with them the more tame they will become :)
