This video will be my last for 2020, and I'm glad to finish this year with my girl, my first girl ever, my dear Eleanor Guthrie. It's an idea that I've had for a long time now, and recently I had a wave of inspiration for Black Sails, for a pretty simple reason: Karliene, an artist that I admire enormously, released a album on Anne Bonny and the pirates. This album dazzled me and awakened the inspiration for what is and will always be my favorite show. This song for me is just written for Eleanor and perfectly describes how she must have felt coming back to Nassau after being imprisoned in England. I really wanted highlighted the fact that Eleanor didn't feel the same way in Nassau after coming back with the term "nobody's home" rather than pointing out that a lot of the people she loved are no longer in Nassau, although it's closely related. I really wanted this video to be a retrospective of how Eleanor felt when she came back from Nassau, what she lost about herself more than what she lost with people. For example, at 1:19 I tried to make Eleanor look like she was watching a memory of herself, the free and independent woman she was as she was forced to adjust to rules of civilization which precisely prevents her from finding the woman she has been, or at least the freedom she has known.
