Mixxie Powers's video: Joe Dallesandro and Geraldine Smith Flesh outtake 1968

I'm posting this because of the recent controversy over Daniel Tosh and what happened at the Laugh Factory. I think rape can be talked about in a humorous way. It just depends on context and who is doing the talking, and what the satire is meant to convey in terms of social commentary. This is an improved scene (Geraldine Smith was not pregnant in California) from "Flesh", an outtake, in which Joe discusses what hard work 'rape' is and the work is too hard. I think he might have been riffing about hustling---as in, he did not like the effort involved in playing 'rough trade' to his customers'. Joe's POV at this age is worth listening to as someone who a few years earlier at the age of 15 had been exploited by Bob Mizer and Bruce of L.A. for their respective spank banks. He's expressed pretty candidly in recent years his feelings of having been exploited sexually at an age where he was still growing, including blocking MOCA from including photos of him in their Bob Mizer exhibit by reminding them he was 15 when they were taken. He also repeatedly reminds fans who ask for autographs for these photos that he was a minor at the time and they are essentially asking him to condone child pornography. I think his thoughts on rape are valid. What I like about this scene is you get a sense of Joe's dry, understated wit, something he's rarely given credit for. Edited August 23, 2016
