Mixxie Powers's video: Seduction clip from The Public Enemy James Cagney is taken advantage of

A great scene in the 1931 William Wellman film "The Public Enemy" in which the roles are reversed and James Cagney is essentially 'date-raped' by his crime boss's girlfriend. This film was made a year after the Motion Picture Production Code was adopted but it really didn't start effecting film making until a few years later. This scene which more than implies sexual relations between unmarried people would never pass the strict code of later years. Seems I was right...I just found this bit of info, "The film was re-released in 1941 after the Production Code was put into effect. Three scenes of the film were cut because of the Code. One is of a markedly effeminate tailor measuring Tom for a suit, another with Matt and Mamie "rolling around" in bed, and the third showing Tom being seduced when hiding out in a woman's apartment" ETA---it's been politely pointed out to me that I failed to name the actress in this scene. She is Mia Marvin. She actually went uncredited in the film. Perhaps because, as has also been pointed out in the comments, this scene was cut from the original release. According to wikipedia, "In her entire film career spanning five years she appeared in only three movies in her career but never in a credited role". How sad! Thanks for the info, folks! I just watched this with my daughter a couple of days ago and she was really impressed by how dark it is and how compelling Cagney was.
