@Will The Streets Of Portland Become The Infamous Skid Row Located In Los Angeles California
Competition has begun between Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington on who will grab the title of the New Skid Row. Seattle Washington's very own 3rd and Pine/Pike /Yesler currently has the lead, however all of downtown Portland Oregon is creeping up very fast closing in on the lead. Skid Row is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles, the area is also known as Central City East. As of the 2019 census, the population of the district was 4,757. Skid Row contains one of the largest stable populations (about 2,783) of homeless people in the United States and has been known for its condensed homeless population since the 1930s. Its long history of police raids, targeted city initiatives, and homelessness advocacy make it one of the most notable districts in Los Angeles. Covering fifty city blocks (2.71 sq mi) immediately east of downtown Los Angeles, Skid Row is bordered by Third Street to the north, Seventh Street to the south, Alameda Street to the east, and Main Street to the west The term "skid row" or "skid road," referring to an area of a city where people live who are "on the skids," derives from a logging term. Loggers would transport their logs to a nearby river by sliding them down roads made from greased skids. Loggers who had accompanied the load to the bottom of the road would wait there for transportation back up the hill to the logging camp. By extension, the term began to be used for places where people with no money and nothing to do gathered, becoming the generic term in English-speaking North America for a depressed street in a city. "Seattle's homelessness crisis has been years in the making, and its roots run deep, touching racial inequity, economic disparities, mental health treatment, rising housing costs, mental health, addiction, and so much more. We have a responsibility to be honest that this crisis won't go away overnight. Lasting, meaningful progress will take years. But we still must act - and are acting - to improve life in Seattle." - Mayor Jenny Durkan https://www.gofundme.com/f/morrish-knowledge-tv
