Moscow Urban Forum's video: MUF2020 Housing for Singapore Towards a Happier and More Inclusive Society

@MUF2020/ Housing for Singapore. Towards a Happier and More Inclusive Society
In the 1960s a programme was launched to provide affordable social housing to the entire population of the country in Singapore. Today 82% of the city’s nearly 6 million residents own their homes provided by the government. Singapore’s urban planning and land use strategy initially focused on the construction of both square meters of living space and urban infrastructure. So, Singapore is developing at the expense of small satellite cities, which are divided into districts and provided with everything a resident might need, including schools, hospitals, parks, and transport networks. This complex approach to city planning fosters a unique environment for the creation of district communities and their micro- environment. When designing satellite cities and district environments, city planners emphasise natural preservation and protecting the health of all residents. This approach to decentralization and local development of districts made Singapore one of the most sustainable and prosperous cities in the world. What are the advantages and disadvantages of zoning and cluster development for megacities? What new approaches to district development is Singapore following today? How can decentralising a city help improve quality of life for citizens? How has the pandemic affected development trends in neighborhoods and urban peripheries? Speakers: - Cheong Koon Hean Moderator: - Петр Кудрявцев
