@Maximize Growth Potential - Chinese Medicine Music Preview Album - Nourish Liver-Wood, Expand Mind
Listen to in a quiet location at full volume. Designed using principles of Chinese Medicine, this piece models processes of expansion and deepening, facilitating growth and creative breakthrough. SMART Goals Bonus Resource @ End of Video! Extended Description This piece models a process of expanding the mind in myriad ways. 1. It increases and reduces in volume, pitch and octave for long periods of time to model the maximum expansion of the mind and body. 2. It is recorded at 80 Beats per Minute [which matches the energy dynamic of Liver and Large intestine], and which provides a structure for the entire piece; no matter how much musical exploration there is, we always return to the base tempo to ground the music. In the same way, low tones are almost always held while the music ascends into the higher octaves – modeling the process of extending ourselves without forgetting about our roots. Moreover, descending tones are used to model the process of gently unwinding from our efforts, and returning back to ourselves as a new individual. Finally, the process of slow but steady growth is encouraged by spending a lot of time with each minute change in the music. This means the expansion of the mind is steady and can be sustained; there are few sudden movements, and when we stretch to our greatest potential – we find there is no resistance along the way as we have gently warmed the path up before us! This is like a plant growing in perfect weather – steadily moving towards its destined height. Each time a change in tone, volume or octave is acclimated to, there are moments are musical celebration – just as we must celebrate and appreciate the small goals we achieve along the way to achieving something much bigger. Finally, the last movement of the album incorporates a calming and cooling integration period; This models the not-always-linear process of relaxing, reflecting on, and integrating growth after it occurs. Organ-Tones. Use tones for the energy of refinement and growth, corresponding to the large intestine and liver organs respectively. Chords and sequences involving these two notes at different octaves guide the energy of extension and refinement to the liver organ. The liver is associated with the intellectual mind (hun spirit) – the capacity to reach out with our minds and connect with things – whether this is a book in front of us, an idea we are considering – or a goal that we have set. As a physical organ, the large intestine holds and passes the stool. As a spiritual organ it involves the processes of reflection which allow us to review, reflect on, refine (what we wish to keep, or produce in the world), and release both what we do not want (waste, intellectual stool) and what we want to share with others (the end product of our efforts). When the energy of the large intestine merges with the Liver, it stimulates the mind to the far reaches of it’s potential. Later in the piece, the energy of the Pericardium is accessed through A #. This organ - which in the West simply refers to the protective layer of the Heart - involves opening the heart and overcoming the discomfort associated with taking risks of which we do not know the outcome - aka "vulnerability". This energy was included to help overcome any psychological blocks to growth that occur when we put ourselves out into the world, do something creative and/or original. Hexagram rhythms: Model the merging of the Liver & Large intestine. Hexagrams are code for specific universal energies (e.g. Hexagram 24 models the process of starting new things, and provides guidance for those seeking counsel in "starting things right" - with wisdom and clarity). Each hexagram is built of six lines. It may be composed of any combination Yin and Yang Lines. Yin lines are referred to as broken lines _ _ ; and yang lines are unbroken lines ___). Twelve [of the 64] hexagrams are linked to a specific organ of Chinese medicine, as well as a specific month of the year. These 'tidal' hexagrams can be modeled by musical rhythms. In this piece, the hexagram for large intestine (number 34 “great power”) is a played in the liver key of C #. Hexagram 34 has four yang lines with two yin lines on top. All hexagrams come from the Book of Changes (I-Ching) – a resource has been used for millennia by spiritual teachers, government leaders, and scholars including Confucius and Carl Jung; the book of Changes is considered to be one of ancient China’s treasure troves of wisdom. All music is recorded at 432.1 Hertz, a frequency associated with the Earth's natural vibration, considered to have greater health effects than music recorded at the standard pitch of 440 Hz.
