@Green Energy News Tesla Range Record, Fracking Lawsuit, Towing Icebergs
This is Green Energy News, I'm your host MrEnergyCzar. We're covering Electric Cars, Renewable Energy, the Environment, Peak Oil and everything in between. • Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MrEnergyCzar.PeakOil • Twitter: https://Twitter.com/MrEnergyCzar • The Tesla Model S set a European electric range record. Two Dutch students managed to travel 388 miles on one charge. The world record was 423 miles set in Florida also in a Tesla S. • Norway sets and electric car sales record in August. 6% of new car purchases were plug-ins. In Norway, almost 100% of electricity production comes from renewables. They may be giving the rest of the world a peek into how to wean off of oil in a post Peak Oil future. • A molasses pipeline spilled in Hawaii killing thousands of fish and aquatic life. Several hundred thousand gallons spilled into Honolulu harbor. The molasses behaves like Tar Sands oil by sinking to the bottom of the sea floor. There's no oxygen at depth so the animals suffocate and die. This is not the first molasses disaster. About 100 years ago, the great Boston molasses disaster killed 21 people. • As the world becomes more desperate for clean water, a company spoke about plans to tow icebergs to drought stricken regions. Just one iceberg, could provide fresh water for a half a million people for a year. It is unknown what would happen to the climate if many nations started removing all the icebergs from the arctic. • One of ExxonMobil's subsidiaries, a fracking company, has had criminal charges filed against it in Pennsylvania. The alleged violations include 50,000 gallons of toxic fracking wastewater getting into Pennsylvania's water system. Pennsylvania is friendly to fracking in general, after all, fracking is allowed on college campuses there. • New coal plants will be banned in major Chinese cities. Chinese leaders may be getting nervous knowing the pollution is the number one reason for social unrest. While this is an important step, China is still burning half the world's coal production each year. They want to slow their coal consumption growth. The lethal Chinese air will continue unless they shut down existing dirty coal plants and abandon their commitment to economic growth.
