@Railfanning the CN in Upper Michigan 10-11-2020
On October 11, me, Wisconsin Railfanner and Fox Valley Rails took a railfanning trip to Gladstone, MI and did some railfanning on the CN in Upper Michigan. Our first stop was catching a somewhat early A450 at Stephenson, MI. 0:00 Intro 0:05 Train CN A450 (Sault Ste. Marie, ON-Green Bay, WI): CN 3849 ES44AC (Tier 4 Credit) CN 8010 SD70M-2 After catching A450, we continue to Gladstone and then we hear A451 marking up at Gladstone while driving by Bark River, so then we hurry up to catch A451 north and east of Gladstone. 1:49 A451 at U 25 east of Rapid River, MI 3:49 A451 at Y 25 in Ensign Train CN A451 (Green Bay, WI-Sault Ste. Marie, ON): IC 2700 C44-9W CN 2533 C44-9W We then heard L549 going by the MP 127 detector off the Marquette Range Sub so then we went back to Gladstone to see it come back light power into Gladstone yard limits. 5:05 CN L549 (Gladstone, MI-Eagle Mills, MI/LS&I local turn): CN 5410 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9040) CN 5452 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9009) About an hour or two after L549 arrived into Gladstone yard, L552 marked up and departed for the Iron Mountain Sub and followed them almost all the way to Powers. 5:54 L552 19th Ave west of Escanaba by Algoma Jct. 7:47 L552 J 5 a few miles west of Escanaba 8:29 L552 Michigan 69 east of Bark River 9:27 L552 Hillside Road 40 east of Spalding Train CN L552 (Gladstone, MI-Quinnesec, MI turn): CN 5422 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9058) CN 5446 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9003) Once L552 got into Powers, U745 marked up with Desk 12 RTC and received their Tack Authorities to Partridge yard. 10:25 U745 eparting Gladstone yard limits at Lake Bluff 12:31 U745 at Power Plant Road in Escanaba on the Marquette Range Sub 14:17 U745 County Road 434 in Brampton Train CN U745 (Gladstone, MI-Eagle Mills, MI ore turn): CN 5452 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9009) CN 5410 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9040) Once we last caught U745 at Brampton, I could barely hear parts of the MP 362 detector go off on the Manistique Sub so I knew L544 was approaching Gladstone after hearing that they would meet A451 around Manistique earlier in the day. Sure enough, not too long later, CN 5431 calls out MP 355 and at that point we knew L544 was close. 15:37 L544 26th Road southwest of Rapid River 16:10 L544 Willow Ave north end of Gladstone yard limits Train CN L544 (Sault Ste. Marie, ON-Gladstone, MI): CN 5431 SD60 (ex EMDX/GMTX/OWY 9076)
