Charles Conner went on a manic shooting spree last Sunday near Brownwood, Texas, killing a couple and their two dogs. But Conner got what was coming to him at the hand of an elderly Texas gunslinger named Vic Stacy. Stacey mowed Conner down with his .357 Magnum during a shootout that also involved an Early police officer. According to witnesses, Conner got into an argument with David House, 58, and Iris Martinez Calaci, 53, at the Peach House RV Park over the couple's dogs. After killing the couple and their dogs, he went to his RV and retrieved a 30-30 rifle and waited for police. When Sgt. Steven Means arrived, Conner opened fire on him and another neighbor in the RV park. Ole' Vic Stacey was watching a movie in his RV when the shots rang out. A neighbor called him instantly and asked for help. Stacey grabbed his .357 and hit the door. He was able to quickly access that Sgt. Means in trouble. He was pinned down and out-gunned. Stacy looked for an opportunity and lined up for a shot at Conner. After a neighbor asked Stacy if he was going to shoot Conner, Stacy replied, "I sure am when I get a good shot." Stacy fired his first shot and hit Conner in the thigh. But Conner was able to swing his rifle around at Stacy and take a shot, but missed. Stacy opened fire in concert with the police officer's and Conner died in a hail of gunfire. "His actions may have also saved the lives of other citizens who could have innocently walked into the situation. Under fire, the resident shooter returned fire at precisely the right moment. One of the rounds struck Conner in the thigh and staggered Conner as he turned fire on Sgt. Means," said Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs. "Had this citizen not had a gun, this could have been a whole lot worse," said Grubbs.
