@FFXIV Tips: New Player Short Resource Lvl Guide [2011 Pre 1.8]
READ BELOW: I don't have enough time right now in FFXIV to throw together a walk through so I thought I would compact something for new players. Since the game has changed a lot. Its not a step by step holding the hand. But gives you a direction to go leveling wise. (because many of the mobs levels and locations have changed now) For returning players: - Combat is faster - Interface/mouse faster - When fighting a mob you now get XP/SP at death of mobs as is standard in most mmos now. ( (so no more need to spam skills). http://www.youtube.com/user/MithraTales ( has done a good job at keeping up with patch changes) NEW PLAYER SUGGESTION: -Star in the city of Uldah ( on most servers the population has pretty much moved to this location base wise.) So the leveling areas such as Behest/Leve camps will be much more consistently populated. -Start as a Thaumaturge (THM): 1. Kill Marmots until Lvl 4 (This will get your your first Healing spell which has a renew effect (HoT) Keep killing them until you have about 4 marmot pets in your bag. 2. Go into town and sell them to a vendor. (Including your other junk) Careful though lots is junk but some things you might want if your going to craft and things like Deaspected crystal sell from 10-35k on most servers. Learn about the items; the Market ward has an Item search you can use to check for going rates. Its probably best to keep element crystals if you intend on crafting; if not sell in market. 3. Go to the vendor at end of video and purchase the Weathered Cane for the conjurer skills. 4. Go back outside and follow guide (repeat killing to lvl 4 for the Cure spell (a 2nd heal) However I suggest you push to lvl 8 so you have Stoneskin & Shock Spikes buffs. (For soloing down the road) I also recommend you follow the guide with Conj up to lvl 16 for the next set of buffs, protect, shell etc. You don't have to though. Do one of the above (even if just the THM for the heal Sacrifice.) Then continue on to the job you wish to lvl as your main focus and follow the guide. If you wish to level horizontally (lvl all jobs to 10-20 for example then make sure to keep killing at least lvl 3 or Lvl 10 Marmots here and there for gil for your next starter weapon for job. Example: Thaumaturge to lvl 4 for heal (focus on lvl 2-3 marmot) will go by fast. Grab conj weapon with the pelts that drop. Then do same with conj (make sure you set your THM heal to your bar when you change to conj) At lvl 4 start focusing on lvl 6+ Cobs. (all in guide) When lvl 5 (Go do the behest if avlb and or your free tutorial Leve in your log) Continue to level 6 or 7. Now go up north to the lvl 10 marmots; focus only on these and do one or 2 more behest. You can go to next area at 8 if your rushing. (Camp DryBone). At drybone you'll be lvl 15 in an hour or so (don't miss behests) Go to next area or wait around and get to at least 17. Then bla bla follow recommendations in guide. At Horizon you'll get a level for every 2-4 Behests then it will start to take 5-8 (so four hours or so) Fatigue has kicked in for sure by now. TIPS: I start by lvling Conj and Thm to lvl 20 each so that I get the lvl 2 heals spells. Sacrifice I wont work to well for example (the renew) when in 20s. This gives me the heals and buffs, even tings like slow. I then proceed with other jobs. If you have half life otw to another mob don't heal first...Simply keep going to next mob and then cast sacrifice; the renew will do a great job at keeping you healed. (only if you keep heals current though). Instal Steam if you don't have it. Add FFXIV boot to the games list and you will be able to use a browser inside FFXIV.
