San Diego, July 18 2023 Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe is a limited-time pop-up restaurant located in San Diego, California. The branded venue is intended to be a promotional activity to coincide with the San Diego Comic Con in 2023, and was announced during SEGA's 'Sonic Central' showcase on June 23rd, 2023 [Link]. A partnership between SEGA and Secret Sauce Society restauranteur Andy Nguyen, the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe will be situated at 910 J Street in San Diego, taking over the existing Chick'NCone venue for the period of its operation. It will open for business on 13 July 2023, and will continue operating until 20 August 2023. The design of the pop-up is heavily inspired by the iconography of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with blue lighting and green 'grass' flooring throughout, along with checkerboard patterns decorating the walls and tables. The organisers say that the intention is to "make visitors feel as if they are walking into Sonic’s world." The menu is similarly themed, ranging from chili dogs to a comically titled "Knuckles Sandwich". Each food order will come complete with custom-designed Sonic themed packaging, and guests will be able to purchase exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe-branded merchandise, such as hoodies, t-shirts and hats. On 19 July 2023, a launch party will take place at the restaurant to celebrate the opening of San Diego Comic Con 2023. 'Sonic the Hedgehog' will be attending as a special guest, as will official members of SEGA of America [Link].
