As they head towards the halfway mark of the Indian Premier League, Bangalore and Kolkata find themselves identically positioned. It's only the net run rate that separates the two, Kolkata sitting one place above their Monday-night rivals Bangalore going into their clash in Sharjah. Both teams have grappled with inconsistency but seem to have found their footing ahead of the crucial phase. While both can flex their batting might, Kolkata go into the contest with twin concerns over their in-form death-over specialists Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Spinning all-rounder Narine has been reported for suspect action and put on the warning list. Though the West Indian is allowed to bowl for now, that is bound to weigh on him. His compatriot Russell, a vital cog with his heavy fast-medium and power ball-striking, is a doubtful starter after picking up a knee injury on Saturday against Punjab. In contrast, Bangalore's much-debated bowling attack has received a fresh impetus with South African pace ace Chris Morris belatedly making his debut. The 33-year-old returned 3/19 in the team's convincing 37-run win over Chennai on Saturday after sitting out the previous five matches due to injury. While the spin duo of Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal has been successful in Dubai, they will be wary of the shorter boundaries in Sharjah. The form of skipper Kohli is heartening, but they will look for more from opener Aaron Finch. After a steady start, the Australian has been out of sorts in the last three games, which has affected the team's performance in the Powerplay. It is important for Bangalore to carry forward the winning momentum, considering they play three matches over the next six days. Bangalore will clash with Kolkata in match 28 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Sharjah on the 12th of October. Both, Bangalore and Kolkata have won 4 of their first 6 matches and would look to further consolidate their position with a victory. Bangalore The biggest positive for Bangalore is the return to top form of Virat Kohli. He scored more than half of his team’s runs (90 off 52 deliveries) against Chennai in Dubai. Bangalore would be hoping for a big score from Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers – both have failed in the last couple of matches. Chris Morris was the star with the ball against Chennai – Bangalore would hope he can continue from where he left in Dubai. Although Yuzvendra Chahal is the more famous name in the XI and has been their leading wicket-taker in IPL 2020, it is the off-spinner, Washington Sundar, who has been their unsung hero and the most restrictive with an economy rate of 4.88. Kolkata Kolkata have won their last two matches and will be confident of making it three in a row. Shubman Gill will remain the pivot at the top of the order – he is their highest run-scorer this season with 220 runs in 6 matches. He plays the role of the accumulator as his strike rate of 117.02 indicates. Kolkata would want at least one of their two West Indian imports – Andre Russell and Sunil Narine – to come good. Both have had a horrendous tournament with the bat. Eoin Morgan also needs a significant score in the middle order. The bowling unit has done a decent job for Kolkata in the tournament. Although they have not picked a heap of wickets, the likes of CV Varun, Russell and even Narine have been fairly restrictive. Kolkata would expect a big performance from their ace pacer – Pat Cummins, who has looked out of sorts in IPL 2020.
