When last time these two teams met it was Hyderabad that came up trumps. Will Chennai exact a revenge and turn things around? It's an unusual situation for Chennai to be in. At the halfway stage of their campaign in IPL, Dhoni and Co. are second last at the bottom with four points. It's a situation they would want to improve when they take on Hyderabad at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday night. But for that to happen, they will need to plug the "many holes in the ship" Dhoni referred to after their 37-run defeat to Bangalore. Listless batting that lacked intent or the heft usually associated with the three-time champions, who indulged in taking the game deep and delivered from impossible situations in the past, is the cause for Chennai's despair this season. Barring the match against Punjab, when Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis gave a glimpse of their powerful past, and the tournament opener against Mumbai to an extent, Chennai have wilted in face of mounting pressure from rival batsmen like Virat Kohli, or lacked the thrust to chase down targets - Dhoni chose to field all three times he won the toss -- and are yet to defend a total this season. The seven-run loss to the Sunrisers in the first leg is one of Chennai's five defeats with youngsters making the difference in that match. Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma came to the fore when the Hyderabad big guns faltered, a trend that continues in the tournament with the likes of Ryan Parag and Rahul Tewatia doing it for Rajasthan. The short turnover after that five-wicket defeat to the Rajasthan on Sunday means Hyderabad will have to get their act together that much quicker. Hyderabad looked in control till the 15th over before the Rajasthan duo switched gears. Rashid Khan 17 runs in the 17th over that tilted the scales for the Rajasthan. Chennai: When MS Dhoni and his Chennai landed in Dubai a month ago, not in their wildest dreams they would have thought that they will be struggling to make it into the top-four of the Indian T20 League. First they were hit by Covid-19 when pacer Deepak Chahar and batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad were tested positive and then less than ordinary performance made sure that the Chennai fans were not going to have the time of their lives which they were so desperately looking forward to once IPL became a possibility among the pandemic. Now with just 4 points in 7 matches, Chennai are desperate to turn things around but the body language of the team doesn’t look good. Finisher MS Dhoni is clearly on the wane and coach Stephen Fleming himself has said that the spinners are ‘yet to come to the party’. Hyderabad: Played seven, won three, lost four. Hyderabad are having a roller-coaster of a season. But probably they will relish taking on a wounded Chennai in the return fixture so that they can mend their ways as soon as possible. They are clearly not a team which has a battery of explosive hitters but the likes of Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey can shake things up a bit. Not to mention David Warner and Jonny Bairstow at the top are in sublime form. T Natarajan can be the x-factor with his yorkers but barring him the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Siddharth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma are yet to cement their places in the squad. Warner has rotated them and this shows that he is struggling to fill the void that has opened up after Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out due to injury.
