It was a compelling match, full of vibrant, competitive and occasionally flawed cricket on a sporting pitch. If the remaining four Tests are similarly as hard fought, it should be an entertaining few weeks. On balance, India will feel the less satisfied of the two teams with a draw as they were the most likely victors on the final day at Trent Bridge but at least they head into the second Test at Lord's, which begins on Thursday (August 12), all square, which was not the case during the winter in India or in the 2018 series in England. The home side will no doubt be relieved to have escaped Nottingham without defeat after their disappointing first innings display with the bat. After all, at the end of day one, there appeared to be only one winner. India still look to be the better all-round outfit though even if there are concerns about the form of some of their batsmen. KL Rahul's return to the team could not have gone much better but the middle order struggled once again, as it did in the World Test Championship final and as it has for some time. The home side have batting issues of their own, of course. Only the brilliance of Joe Root in both innings prevented India from steamrolling England's batting line-up in game one. There were at least signs of more fight and technical application from the rest of the order in the second innings but the issues in England's top six will not be solved overnight, even if there are personnel changes for this game. How their vulnerable batting line-up copes with the class of India's bowlers is set to be a theme of this series. Jasprit Bumrah was the main threat at Trent Bridge. His return to form after a quiet World Test Championship Final was perhaps the biggest positive to come out of the opening Test for India, although KL Rahul's showing at the top of the order ran him close. If the ball continues to move both ways for Bumrah as much as it did in Nottingham it is going to be a very difficult rest of the series for England's batsmen. The Lord's slope should make him an even more difficult proposition in this game too. The series may still be all square but it is the home team who have the most work to do. When: Thursday August 12, 2021. 11:00am Local Time Where: Lord's, Marylebone, London What to expect: After the opening game of the series was marred by wet weather, the forecast at the moment is thankfully much better for this game although there is still a chance of some rain on Sunday. The Lord's pitch for the Test against New Zealand in June was on the slow side but still offered a good balance between bat and ball and that is likely to be the case again, particularly if some grass is left on, as it was earlier in the summer. Team News England England will name their team at the toss but there could be a number of changes to the side that played at Trent Bridge. Stuart Broad is likely to miss out after injuring his calf in training on Tuesday while James Anderson has a tight quad and is also a doubt. Mark Wood is set to make the team while Saqib Mahmood has been added to the squad and could make a debut as well. Moeen Ali's recall to the squad almost certainly means he is going to play too. If he does come in, England will revert to having five bowlers and will play a spinner for the first time this summer. There could also be a change in the top order with both Chris Silverwood and Joe Root giving Haseeb Hameed's credentials a push in the lead-up. Zak Crawley, who averages just 11 this year, looks most vulnerable. India India have confirmed that Shardul Thakur isn't available for selection for the second Test after suffering a myofascial strain on his left hamstring. It would seem R. Ashwin could offer lower-order batting insurance but Kohli suggested he was happy with how his 'strongest batting line-up' was shaping up and a continuation of a four-seamer template with Ishant Sharma's return to the land of his 7 for 66 will not be unexpected. Teams: India Squad: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav, Hanuma Vihari, Axar Patel, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha England Squad: Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, Joe Root(c), Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler(w), Sam Curran, Ollie Robinson, James Anderson, Moeen Ali, Haseeb Hameed, Mark Wood, Craig Overton, Saqib Mahmood, Ollie Pope, Jack Leach
