Musical Joy & Memories's video: Halloween Six Pack of Haunted Rarities Don t be Scared Give it a Try

@Halloween Six Pack of Haunted Rarities (Don't be Scared, Give it a Try!)
Happy Halloween! Here is a Halloween rarities six-pack I put together of some artists I really enjoy who recorded Halloween songs that deserve a little more recognition. Track 1: I don’t know who the artist is but I liked the dancing skeleton. Circa early 1940s. If anyone knows the artist please let me know. Track 2: “Monster Shindig” a wonderful mid-1960s Halloween song originally by Danny Hutton. I think Hanna Barbera cartoons may have used the original version at some point. The song was resurrected from the grave by the California band The 7 & 6 a few years ago. Note: The 7 & 6’s leading lady is Lisa Mychols. She was the woman who recorded my Christmas song last year. The 7 & 6 just released (Oct 29, 2020) a second Halloween video from this session, a haunting instrumental called “The Skeleton Surfer.” Track 3: “The Lakeview Man” by the Rainmakers, 1987. I created this picture montage video years ago to go along with the song. The Rainmakers were / are a Kansas City area band from the 1980s. I liked them then but around 2007 I really got hooked on lead singer Bob Walkenhorst’s songs and never looked back. Track 4: “Teach Me How to Rock’n’Roll” by The Creepies. This was performed by an obscure British band in 1975. I picked up the song at a record show in Columbia, PA in the late 1980s. The vendor wrote on the 45 sleeve, sounds like T. Rex meets the Chipmunks meets Bobby Boris Pickett. He was correct. I created the montage video for this and a few years ago the singer contacted me to tell how he loved the video and how the song was remembered. Track 5: “Boogie Woogie Boogie Man” by the Brian Sisters (1942). I don’t know what this was originally made for, but I used to show a History Channel Halloween documentary at Neumann and about 30 seconds of this song was featured in the documentary. Only took me about 15 years to track it down. The girls were in an Our Gang short (Little Rascals) and sang in about a half dozen movies from that era including a Shirley Temple movie. Very reminiscent of a younger version of the Andrew Sisters to me. Track 6: “Headless Horseman” by Kay Starr (1948). Wasn’t really aware of pre-“Monster Mash” Halloween songs before I discovered the Brian Sisters (see ). This was another great one from that era and there are plenty more from that era. Thurl Ravenscroft (Tony the Tiger and the singer of “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch) also sang a fantastic version of this song. Enjoy!
