Learn with me: Acrylic. In this brand new series and first episode, you will learn some basic tried and tested techniques of applying acrylics with a paint brush to your art journal, and also how it can be applied in practice. Thank you for your support. TECHNIQUES USED: SCUMBLING: gerund or present participle: scumbling. Modify (a painting or colour) by applying a very thin coat of opaque paint to give a softer or duller effect. DRY BRUSHING: Drybrush is a painting technique in which a paint brush that is relatively dry, but still holds paint, is used. Load is applied to a dry support such as paper or primed canvas. The resulting brush strokes have a characteristic scratchy look that lacks the smooth appearance that washes or blended paint commonly have. IMPASTO: Impasto is a technique used in painting, where paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. IMPRINTING: Using object to print into the paint leaving a unique pattern or print. Bubble wrap, paper towel, a brayer, all may be used to create different effects. WET ON WET BLENDING: Blending two or more colours into each other, creating a different shade where the colours meet with a smooth seamless transition. SGRAFITTO : From the Lantern word meaning to “Scratch Into” SPLATTETS: Splattering diffuses or scatters paint over the paper or fabric being painted. Below are some different techniques to create various results – from large droplets to a fine mist. WATERED DOWN: Adding water to paint to change the consistency, making it thinner and in affect more translucent in appearance.
