Vishu is a Kerala harvest festival that marks the beginning of a new year with lots of happiness,spirituality,togetherness,traditions and overall prosperity .Vishu in Sanskrit language means 'equal' and so the joy and tradition related to it is spread with everyone around.Morever, it is not only a festival of Malayalees but also celebrated all across India with different names : In Assam ,Vishu festival is known as Bihu where as in Punjab the festival is known ` as Baisakhi. On the dawn of the auspicious day of Vishu, everyone in the family are supposed to see the Vishukkani/Vishukani as the first holy sight for a blessed New Year.This ritual is called Kanikanal..The night before Vishu,the elder lady of the house is suppose to decorate the puja room where God is worshipped ,with the idol of Lord Krishna surrounded with various auspicious things like different fruits, grains, vegetables, lamps, flowers, coconut, gold, mirror/Valkkannadi, Hindu holy books: Ramayanam or Bhagavat Gita, etc. especially in a large circular vessel which is made of five metals. In Kerala, everyone wish each other wellness and happiness ,visit temples and children wear traditional clotehs and enjoy bursting crackers . People usually may have a get together at their tharavaddu veedu/main home of grand parents and prepare varieties of food items which are sweet,sour,salty ,bitter ,spicy yet mild for an elaborate meal ,sadya served in Banana leaf . This Vishu was very very special to my family as my baby girl who turned a toddler ate her first sadya lunch with us by herself with little help from me .So, we captured these precious moments which will remind her how special she is and her traditions always.So,sharing this vishu video with lots of good and food vibes .Being a mother juggling with time,posting it late but better late than never...Happiness should be shared afterall...
