Il nome tiella deriva dalla pentola in cui tradizionalmente si usava preparare questo piatto: la tiella era un recipiente largo e basso di creta nel quale le mamme usavano preparare cene ricche e succulente al termine di una lunga e faticosa giornata nei campi.
