बढ़ती महंगाई का एक और मतलब है, ज़्यादा दाम में कम सामान. साबुन से लेकर बिस्कुट तक का वज़न घटाया जा रहा है, ताकि उसी दाम में कम सामान देने का जुगाड़ निकाला जा सके. ज़्यादा पैसा देने के बजाए, अगर सामान ही कम दिया जाए तो शायद आपको पता नहीं चलेगा? ऐसा है क्या? सुशील महापात्रा ने परचून के एक दुकानदार से बात की. उन्होंने बताया कि पारले जी का सौ ग्राम का बिस्कुट पांच रुपये में मिलता था, आज भी पांच रुपये में ही मिलता है लेकिन पैकेट में 100 ग्राम बिस्कुट की जगह 58 ग्राम ही है. 42 ग्राम बिस्कुट कम हो गया है. पांच किलो आटे के पैकेट का दाम 160 रुपये से बढ़कर 180 रुपया हो गया है. खुला चावल भी दस रुपये से लेकर बीस रुपए महंगा हो चुका है.
