This is cultural dance video of Lohorung people. Lohorung are a janajati or ethnic native people of eastern Nepal. Lohorung belongs to Rai community, which is branch of the Greater Kirat family. The Lohorung homeland is Sankhuwasabha district in the northern part of the Arun watershed, a tributary to the Koshi. At present they are found in eight other districts of Nepal: Ilam, Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Dhankuta, Terhathum, Lalitpur and Kathmandu. They also live in northeastern states of India: Darjeeling and Kalimpong in West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam, and even Bhutan, Australia, United Kingdom and United States. Lohorung, also spelled Lorung, Lohrung or Loharung, is a Kiranti language of eastern Nepal. It has been described by George van Driem. The Lohorung language belongs to the Kiranti group of Sino-Tibetan languages. Southern Lorung is also considered to be Southern Yamphu. These varieties are all closely related. Lohorung is spoken between the middle Arun valley and the Sabhakhola in central Sankhuwasabha District, Kosi Zone, in the villages of Pangma, Angala, Higuwa, Khorande, Bardeu, Gairiaula, Malta, Sitalpati, and Dhupu (Ethnologue). Southern Yamphu (Southern Lorung) is spoken in Bodhe, Mounabudhuk, Bhedetar, and Rajaran villages in Dhankuta District, Kosi Zone (Ethnologue). It is also spoken in Devitar and Matsya Pokhari villages, northern Sankhuwasabha District, which are located south of the Tamorkhola, east of the Jaruwakhola and west of the Raghuwkhola. Dialects are Gessa and Yamphe (also known as Newahang Yamphe, Yakkhaba, Yakkhaba Khap, Yamphe Kha). Lohorung Yakhkhaba Yuyong is a non-profit organization advocating for the Lohorung community. It is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The main festivals of Lohorung are Nwagi and Iksamam and of course the Sakela Sakewa or known as chandi in Nepali.
