Glimpse history of kirati sunuwar through the photo album. the image/photo is from 1865's to 2015. video credit Durga Sunuwar The Sunuwar people belong to the Kirati family or the Kirat confederation that includes the Dhimal, the Limbu, the Rai, the Jirel, the Surel the Yakkha and many other Mongoloid ethnic groups of Nepal. Sunuwar’s original name is Koinch. Names like Mukhiya or Mukhia was given to Sunuwar by the Gorkha King P.N Shah. Sunuwar have their distinct language, religion, culture and social customs. They speaks their own mother language “Koinch Lo”. They inhabit the eastern hills of Nepal like the Eastern hills of Dolakha District and Ramechhap District, Janakpur Zone, Northwestern Okhaldhunga District, Sagarmatha Zone. Before the modern day Nepal was established, this region was known as Wallo Kirat.
