Snow blankets European capital Brussels Snow coated Brussels on Monday (February 8) pushing locals to enjoy the outdoors, though without the travel disruption seen in neighbouring Germany and the Netherlands, as meteorologists forecast one of the most prolonged cold spells in years. Monuments including the city's royal palace were given a heavy dusting overnight with temperatures on Monday not expected to climb above 0 degrees Celsius and night time lows of up to -10 forecast for parts of the country in the coming days. In the Netherlands, motorists were warned to stay at home due to slippery conditions and dozens of flights from the country's biggest airport Schiphol were either cancelled or delayed. In Germany, national rail operator Deutsche Bahn suspended connections across the Dutch border and some other long-distance domestic services were also cancelled.
