@Lights and chants in Bangkok as Myanmar nationals protest coup
Lights and chants in Bangkok as Myanmar nationals protest coup A few dozen Burmese demonstrators lit up phone lights and candles outside the Myanmar embassy in Thailand on Thursday (February 4) against the country's military coup. Many of the protesters were seen holding up three fingers, a salute adopted in Thailand to protest authoritarian rule. "I want other countries to help (pressure) to release Aung San Suu Kyi" said 22-year-old Myanmar national, Kong. On Monday, the army seized power alleging irregularities in the election, derailing Myanmar's long and difficult transition to democracy. The move was condemned by the United Nations and Western governments, who called on the junta to respect Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy's landslide victory.
