In a robust effort to enhance its stake in Indian Railway freight transport, the Ministry of Railways has set a target to increase its share to 55%. The Railway Minister stated that with 55% of the country's freight transport belonging to the railways and 45% to the roadways, India will become globally competitive. The goal is to reduce logistics costs, benefiting the country, as logistics currently account for 13-14% of the GDP. The target is to bring this figure below 10% by 2030, as per the National Rail Plan. The plan envisions increasing the railway's current 27% share in the country's freight transport to an impressive 45% by 2030.
