Dominic MacMahon claimed double-glazing company Zenith Staybrite Ltd had taken advantage of his 81-year-old mother Dr Heather Collins. Dr Collins was cold-called by the the company on Monday evening and told the rep the handle on her front door was loose and needed fixing. The following day a salesman arrived and spent about two-and-a-half hours with the widow, who gets confused about what day of the week it is and needs the support of three part time carers so she can live independently. The day after the sale, Mr MacMahon confronted the Zenith Staybrite Ltd salesman and filmed the encounter, left and right, before posting it to Facebook where it went viral Dr Collins, a grandmother of two, was persuaded to hand over a cheque for an eye-watering £5,743.73 for a new front door and backdoor which Mr MacMahon says were simply 'not needed'. The insurance broker from Colchester, Essex, returned the following day and filmed the salesman who was back at the retired GP's home. He can be seen confronting the salesman - who is sat in Dr Collins' front room - who claims he was unaware the pensioner was suffering from dementia-like symptoms. Mr MacMahon puts a string of questions to the rep who denies any wrongdoing. The company confirmed this afternoon that an internal investigation had been launched but refused to comment any further. The five-and-a-half minutes of footage was posted to Facebook just yesterday but has already been viewed more than 250,000 times with many left fuming by what they have seen. Mr Macmahon, 50, pictured during the confrontation, called for tighter controls on companies after claiming they 'took advantage' of his elderly mother +11 Mr Macmahon, 50, pictured during the confrontation, called for tighter controls on companies after claiming they 'took advantage' of his elderly mother Mr MacMahon, 50, has called for tighter controls on companies and charities who he claims take advantage of elderly and vulnerable members of the public. Speaking this morning from his mother's home, also in Colchester, he said: 'I needed to emphasise to people what this man had done. 'I was very angry but by being able to put the footage online and tell other people what is going on makes more of a difference. 'This is one case - how many other people are going through this? People who don't have anybody to look after them like mother does. 'What we are hoping to do is make sure other vulnerable people are protected from this type of sale.' He slammed the salesman for concluding the deal with Dr Collins - who lives alone and is easily confused about who people are and what they might be doing in her home. He said: 'The salesman's behaviour is unbelievable - how can you treat another human being that way? How can he look himself in the face after he does that to a vulnerable old lady. 'As my mum was writing out that cheque for nearly £6,000, what was going through his head? Did he think this was the right thing to do? 'It's not sales - it's preying on older people and it's not acceptable in our society. 'Mum struggles with time and quantity - she has no idea what the implications of signing a cheque for £6,000 are. 'She actually thought she had bought two door handles for nearly £6,000 'If that money had gone - it would have directly compromised her ability to pay for her own carers.'
