Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu is living up to his ‘super six’ poll promises, beginning with pensions. Naidu himself has begun visiting people's houses and distributing pensions. Remember, as one of the components of Super Six guarantees, Naidu had promised to hike the monthly pension from the existing Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000. Not just this, he had also announced a pension of Rs 6,000 for the differently abled and Rs 1,500 per month for every woman above 18 years of age. Moving to his second poll promise on rebuilding Amaravati as the state’s sole capital. With the revised cost of building Amaravati having almost doubled to Rs 40,000 crore from the earlier Rs 21,000 crore, Naidu is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman this week, as reported by The Economic Times. Naidu is reportedly eyeing funds to the tune of Rs 15,000 crore in the upcoming budget to allocate towards development of Amaravati. But Amaravati is not the only project of importance. Naidu had also touted the Polavaram irrigation project as the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. And he is looking for an announcement for both the Amaravati and Polavaram projects in the upcoming Union Budget to be tabled in parliament later this month. Naidu is seeking additional funds as the state needs Rs 12,100 crore for the completion of Phase 1 of the Polavaram project. This project is a long-pending irrigation project on the Godavari River in the Eluru and East Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh. The multi-purpose Polavaram project has also been accorded national project status by the central government. Remember, Naidu had kept aside the demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh. The state is instead likely to demand metro projects, light rail projects, announcements related to Vande Bharat trains, and grants for the development of certain districts. Can Naidu swing it for the state of Andhra Pradesh, as a coalition partner in the ruling NDA regime?
